Sustainability

Sustainability at The Pointer School

At The Pointer School we care deeply about the environment and the future of the planet for our children. We look to continuously reduce our own impact on global heating and work to protect our planet through actions great and small.

Sustainability is integrated into our curriculum and also taught discreetly at points throughout the year!

Eco Green Flag Award

Eco Green Flag Award

In Summer 2025, we were very proud to receive the Eco Green Flag award with distinction. This reflected the hard work the community had put into making The Pointer School a more sustainable place. Here is Mr O’Loghlen, Sustainability Lead with Head Mrs Crookes and our Green Flag!

Eco Code

As part of our Eco Green Flag application, we launched a completion for the children to design an Eco Code. The winner Anais Lefevbre created an amazing design. All the rooms in the school will now see Anais’s Eco Code up on the wall!

Water Butt

Water Butt

As part of our targets in 2024/2025, we looked to improve our water use. A lovely way to do this was to use natural rainwater for our plants using a water butt. It is brilliant to see it now in place, save water and nourish our lovely new playground plants in the Pointer building.

Scootability 2025

At the Pointer School we want to encourage active travel, and part of that is children feeling safe on their scooters. Year 1 recently had a brilliant morning in the Pointer building front playground learning about safe scooting!

The Pointer School - Glyphosate Free
Glyphosates are chemicals used in weed killers. They are very damaging to the environment, having a devastating impact on insects and bees that are vital for a functioning and healthy eco system. At The Pointer School we are committed to minimising our impact on nature and using gentle methods on our grounds. Diana from the Maintenance Team says ‘We are Glyphosate free!’

Marnic Green Crew
In March, the Marnic Green Crew visited the gardens on Angerstein Lane and met the owner who kindly showed us around his beautiful community garden. They learnt about seeds and self seeding plants, how to train plants to grow into a desired shape and admired all the beautiful spring tulips and bees. It was a glorious afternoon and the children were excited and inquisitive!
